About the artist
Ruben Vandennieuwenborg (1995) is een grafisch vormgever gevestigd in Gent. Hij studeerde in 2018 af als Master in Grafisch Ontwerp aan de LUCA School of Arts Gent. In zijn praktijk probeert hij zichzelf als ontwerper in vraag te stellen, door de structuren van het proces bloot te leggen en afstand te nemen van zijn eigen auteurschap. Ruben heeft een voorliefde voor automatisch design, waarbij de computer bepaalde keuzes overneemt en zo verschillende ontwerpen genereert.

Als grafisch vormgever, ontwerp ik steeds via mijn computer. Deze digitale manier van werken staat in schril contrast met het enorme vakmanschap van de houtsnedes van Plantin-Moretus. De prenten werden met immense precisie uitgesneden. Ik probeer deze tegenstelling te verkennen via een pixelgrid. Hierdoor ontstaat een nieuwe compositie die zowel abstract als figuratief is.
